3-D IMAGING FOR DENTAL IMPLANTOLOGY IS THE NEW STANDARD OF CARE

At Greenman Smile Concepts, we have always adopted new technologies that have proven benefits for our patients.  We recently installed the Scanora 3D from Soredex because three dimensional imaging is an indispensable adjunct to safe, effective dental implant planning and placement.  Traditional dental x-rays, are two dimensional.  Because of this, the location of critical anatomical structures is guess work at best.  The images below clearly show the benefits of Scanora 3D imaging compared to two dimensional panoramic x-rays.  All three images are from the same patient.  She will receive one dental implant to replace the missing tooth on the lower right jaw.  The red line represents the critical mandibular canal.  This structure as well as the width of the lower jaw are not represented on the panoramic, 2D view. 

Scanora 3D is a conebeam CT system.  However, unlike medical CT, the Scanora 3D conebeam CT exposes the patient to very low x-ray doses.  Medical CT  x-ray doses are up to 15 times higher than Scanora 3D.  Scanora 3D has the lowest dose of any conebeam CT system, with exposures that are typically one-third of the average conebeam CT. 

If you are considering dental implants, I cannot stress enough the importance of three dimensional imaging.  The Scanora 3D allows Dr. Greenman to employ a robotic like method for dental implant placement.  The result is consistent, precise placements with success rates over 97%!
